Online PHP and Javascript Courses

Looking for an introductory class in PHP or Javascript?  We have both coming up, but the PHP class has just a few seats left.

PHP: The Basics
March 3, 5, 10, 12 (Tuesdays/Thursdays)
10:30am – 12:30pm
Registration deadline: February 24th

This live online course will introduce the learner to the basics of the PHP scripting language including: creating dynamic Web content from dead, static HTML pages; and processing form input by formatting and sending it to appropriate e-mail addresses. After this introduction, the learner will be able to move to more advanced PHP where you can create APIs to access certain ILS databases, Amazon.com, etc. The possibilities are too numerous to list.

Javascript Basics
April 21, 23, 28, 30 (Tuesdays/Thursdays)
10:30am – 12:30pm
Early Bird Deadline: March 30th

Basic HTML leads to static, dead Web pages. With the addition of some simple JavaScript, Web pages can interact with users. This course will introduce you to the basics of JavaScript, show you how to write your own simple scripts, and demonstrate how to incorporate pre-written scripts into your Web pages.

For the most up-to-date training schedule, a complete list of courses, descriptions, and a convenient online registration form, visit http://www.amigos.org/learning/calendar/ or contact Chris Brown at Amigos, 1-800-843-8482, ext. 2829, or brown@amigos.org.

ALSC Student Sessions

Just a reminder that the first ALSC Student Session is taking place TOMORROW (2/19) at 7 p.m. CST.  Tomorrow’s session, “Feeling the Crunch: Library Programming on a Budget,” with Senior Librarian Eva Mitnick, is a free one hour workshop about stretching your pennies to provide children’s programming on a tight budget.  All you have to do to participate is sign-in to the ALA 25 seat room B on OPAL (Online Programming for all Libraries) a few minutes before the workshop beings and enter a username.  Your username is how other participants will identify you; there is no registration or password necessary.  If you have never used OPAL before, you will need to download a small piece of software called “tcConference,” which is free and available when you enter the OPAL room with the above link.  Although Student Sessions were made with student members in mind, you do not have to be a student to participate.

OPAL is extremely user-friendly, but you may want to read ALSC’s tips for OPAL participants before attending.  For more information and upcoming sessions, visit the ALSC Web site.  A recording of the session will be available on the ALSC Web site early next week if you are unable to attend the event live.
